I'm the baby of nine, born and raised in Rhode Island. I have had lots of surgeries for repair and ear problems. My first surgery was at ten days old and my most recent surgery was in 2002. I am a special education teacher going for my Masters as an educator. At age 34, I am feeling abused by the medical profession and insurance companies. I'm happy to have found a community, finally!

Our daughter was born with a wide unilateral cleft lip and palate. Her first surgery was at 3 months to correct her lip and nose; palate surgery was done at 13 months. Her surgeon is Dr. B. J. Costello in Pittsburgh, PA, and is the most compassionate, dedicated surgeon we have ever come in contact with. Vilija is in very good hands. She is doing wonderfully in speech therapy and is learning some sign language.
